Key accountabilities
10% Analyzing the EU Green Deal regulations and preparing detailed analysis and summaries for dissemination across the global network. Keeping ongoing EU tax developments, which are part of the Green Deal, under review in particular the Carbon tax (CBAM, ETS), and the Energy Taxation Directive. Also, focusing on the other sustainable regulations like ESPR, Packaging regulation, EU tax system for non-recyclable plastics. Coordinate efforts to participate in EU consultations on those areas
10% Gain a deep understanding as to how our clients can access the various funding programs envisaged by the EU
10% Preparing and maintaining the existing go to market propositions for a) and b) above – for EU tenders, work closely with the EU team on EU Green Deal opportunities from early identification (roadmaps)
10% Review similar activities being undertaken by our competitors and inform generally on market activity in this area
10% Maintain the cross-disciplinary networks of KPMG professionals who are focussing on this particular topic in other KPMG Member Firms and host regular network calls to discuss the emerging agenda and also share knowledge, including liaison with the Virtual Centre of Excellent (‘VCOE’) on Climate Policy, Regulatory & Incentives
10% Developing thought leadership around this area working with the Tax Policy Group and Responsible Tax Program (Chris Morgan) and Climate Policy, Regulatory & Incentives Hub (Ruth Guerra)
10% Work under the responsibility of KPMG ESG Tax & Legal Lead (Loek Helderman) and the Global Decarbonisation Hub (Mike Hayes) whilst also working closely with the Climate Policy, Regulatory & Incentives Hub (Ruth Guerra) and the Tax Policy Group to discuss and consider how KPMG can develop its overall green regulations and tax credentials
10% Ongoing interaction with the ENR, sustainability and infrastructure practices to ensure that the knowledge and expertise is shared widely and that there is full connectivity with the different Centres of Excellence/Institutes in each of these sectors
10% Become part of the global debate on how we continue to integrate tax policy into the wider climate agenda
10% Participate in key events and potentially speak or interact to raise visibility and presence in the different networks around Green Deal: EU, investors, NGOs, etc.

- Knowledge of instruments to address climate change and green taxes in general
- Existing experience working on policy matters or exposure to, and understanding of, EU policy discussions is helpful
- Understanding of the existing work undertaken by KPMGI on EU Green Deal would be helpful
- The person should demonstrate a clear understanding of the objectives of this initiative and demonstrate that he or she has the necessary commercial, technical and people skills to meet the requirements outlined above
- Previous exposure to market players would be beneficial
- This person would ideally work within tax or one of the consulting functions within KPMG
- A natural team player
The person should be open-minded, creative, enthusiastic and flexible
- The person should be an exceptional communicator with the ability to articulate complex ideas to all levels of an organization and effectively lead this initiative
- The person should have excellent communication skills and communicate fluently in English (spoken and written)
- Languages: some French and/or German would be advantageous
